At a time when Burundi was plunged into several years of civil war, ethnic tension, conflicts, and social ills; young people were, due to the effects of war, lost on the streets, and drug addiction and crime were exacerbating the legacy of violence on their young, traumatized psyches.

The organization Pioneers of Awakening and Reconciliation (PRR for short) was created to address the urgency of these fundamental issues with the aim of intervening in the lives of young people whose lives had been disrupted by the effects of war.

In 1998, some young leaders had the idea of transforming the mentality of Burundian youth through the word of God. It was approved by Ministerial Ordinance No. 530/476 of 23/05/2005.
